Recuerdo cosas de otros tiempos,
De cuando el Almacén no tenía luces de neón
Cuando el paraíso no tenía marquesina…
“I was hangin’around, waitin’ for somethin’ to happen’
When nothin’ happened at all
Until I found a Trademark, a Brand
I fell in love with
I fell in love with that lovely, big fat
(It’s the final...) LOGO!!!
Generation Logo, Até! Até Logo.
Todo tiene Logo, Ya tein! Ya tein, Logo.
Veneration Logo, Axé! Ashé, Logo!?
Si no tiene Logo, falta poco, Saravaravá!
From the song "Logo" by Kevin Johansen
Today I found myself reflecting upon a song that as a marketing person (with a very humanistic side) I happen to like a lot. It's "Logo" from Kevin Johansen ft. Ileana Cabra. For those of you who speak Spanish and/or Portuguese, I think you'll enjoy the video:
It basically says that we are in the Generation "Logo" where everything and everyone has a logo and if they don't, they are about to get one. These lyrics may sound strange at first but they may very well be true if we think of a logo as the main visual queue to a brand.
As we all know, in this day and age everyone has a brand. We display it proudly to our friends and family on Facebook, to complete strangers on Twitter and to professional contacts on LinkedIn, Brazen Careerist and so on.
We carry our brand in our blog posts, pictures and business pages, hoping that others will identify and engage with them to establish an ultimate valuable connection. Implicitly we seek validation for the things we have to say and share: our content. Isn't this marketing? Do a web search on “build your personal brand” or a similar set of keywords and you’ll know exactly what I mean. While I will refrain (for now) from arguing for or against the “human branding” movement, I’ll just recognize that it exists and it's important. Therefore, against all time-management and privacy preservation philosophies, I will engage in it.
So today I introduce you to my “logo” represented by this blog and the following personal links below. It is my hope that we get to engage in some meaningful conversations and that beyond all self promotion and personal branding, I get to listen, learn and communicate in order to grow...not as product, but as a person.
Welcome all you logos!
